(Psalm 14: 1) “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God…”

As human beings, we have the ability to reason and think.  Within this reasoning, as we observe nature all around us, the balance of this universe with all of its stars, moon, sun, and planets, the timing of the rotation of the earth and it’s consistent weather patterns, the complex make-up of hundreds of thousands of life forms on earth, etc. etc., we conclude that there is definitely a master designer and creator that brought everything into existence. Within this reasoning of ours, it causes us to agree with the psalmist that truly a fool has said in his heart there is no God. We have to actually be removed from our ability to think and reason with all this amazing proof around us, to say there is no God. As Sir Francis Bacon says; 

“A little philosophy inclineth a man’s mind to atheism; but depth in philosophy bringeth men’s minds to religion.”

Hen or Egg? “A young skeptic said to an elderly lady: ‘I once believed there was a God, but now since studying philosophy and mathematics I am convinced that God is but an empty word.’

‘Well,’ said the lady, ‘I have not studied such things, but since you have, can you tell me from whence comes this egg?’ ‘Why of course, from a hen,’ was the reply. ‘And where does the hen come from?’ ‘Why, from an egg.’ Then the lady inquired: ‘Which existed first, the hen or the egg?’ ‘The hen, of course,’ rejoined the young man.  ‘Oh, then a hen must have existed without having come from an egg?’ ‘Oh no, I should have said the egg was first.’ 

‘Then I suppose you mean that one egg existed without having come from a hen?’ The young man hesitated: ‘Well, you see – that is – of course, well the hen was first!’

‘Very well,’ said she, ‘Who made that first hen which all succeeding eggs and hens have come?’

‘What do you mean by all this?’ he asked.

‘Simply this, I say that He who created the first hen or egg is He who created the world. You can’t explain the existence even of a hen or egg without God, and yet you wish me to believe that you can explain the existence of the whole world without Him!’”

Nobody Made It! It Just Happened! “Sir Isaac Newton had a replica of our solar system made in miniature. In the center was the sun with its retinue of planets revolving around it. A scientist entered Newton’s study one day, and exclaimed, ‘My! What an exquisite thing this is! Who made it?’ ‘Nobody!’ replied Newton to the questioner who was an unbeliever. ‘You must think I am a fool. Of course, somebody made it, and he is a genius.’ Laying his book aside, Newton arose and laid a hand on his friend’s shoulder and said: ‘This thing is but a puny imitation of a much grander system whose laws you and I know, and I am not able to convince you that this mere toy is without a designer and maker; yet you profess to believe that the great original from which the design is taken has come into being without either designer or maker. The Lesson of the Meat Chopper: The American Magazine once published an article giving a businessman’s statement of why he knows there is a God. He had been frankly facing the wonders of the stars and planets, their system and order; then he said, ‘It takes a girl in our factory about two days to learn to put the seventeen parts of a meat chopper together. It may be that these millions of worlds, each with its separate orbit, all balance so wonderfully in space – it may be that they just happened; it may be that by a billion years of tumbling about they finally arranged themselves. I don’t know. I am merely a plain manufacturer of cutlery. But this I do know, that you can shake seventeen parts of a meat chopper around in a washtub for the next seventeen billion years, and you’ll never have a meat chopper.’” – Christian Herald

An Atheist Is Not Lacking in Faith, He Is Lacking in Evidence

Compare What Atheism Does for People’s Lives, With A Belief in God

No Witnesses for Atheism: “Charles Bradlaugh was the outstanding atheist in England. Down in one of the slums of London was a minister by the name of Hugh Price Hughes. All London was aware of miracles of grace accomplished at his mission.

Charles Bradlaugh challenged Mr. Hughes to debate with him the validity of the claims of Christianity. London was greatly interested. What would Mr. Hughes do? He immediately accepted the challenge and in so doing added one of his own.

Hughes said, ‘I propose to you that we each bring some concrete evidences of the validity of our beliefs in the form of men and women who have been redeemed from the lives of sin and shame by the influence of our teaching. I will bring 100 such men and women, and I challenge you to do the same.’

‘If you cannot bring 100, Mr. Bradlaugh, to match my 100, I will be satisfied if you will bring 50 men and women who will stand and testify that they have been lifted up from lives of shame by the influence of your teachings. If you cannot bring 50, then bring 20 people who will say, as my 100 will, that they have a great joy in a life of self-respect as a result of your atheistic teachings. If you cannot bring 20, I will be satisfied if you bring 10.’

‘Nay, Mr. Bradlaugh, I challenge you to bring one, just one man or woman who will make such a testimony regarding the uplifting of your atheistic teachings.’

Again, London was stirred. What could Mr. Bradlaugh do? In answer, Charles Bradlaugh, with great discomfiture and chagrin, publicly withdrew his challenge for the debate.” – Morning Glory

Did You? “Never did anyone state, ‘I was undone and outcast but I read Tom Paine’s ‘Age of Reason’ and I was saved from the power of sin.’ Did you?

Never did I hear of one who declared, ‘I was in darkness and despair and knew not where to turn until I read ‘Robert Ingersoll’s Lectures’ and found liberty and peace.’ Did you?

Never did I hear an atheist saying that his atheism had been the means by which he had been freed from the bondage of drink and set in holiness and happiness.   Did you?

But I have heard many testify that when as hopeless and helpless sinners they had turned in their need to the Son of God and cast themselves upon Him for forgiveness and for victory over sin, that He set them in freedom as worshippers at His pierced feet.  Have you?

To see and hear an atheist die will more demonstrate that there is a God than all the learned can do by their arguments. Here’s another thought, ‘When one faces death, what comfort or strength does atheism provide?’ Look at what happens to a society of people that do not retain God in their knowledge;:

(Romans 1:21-32), because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man–and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

The Atheist Is More Vile Than The Devil Himself In This Sense

To deny there is a God is a sort of atheism that does not exist even in hell;

(James 2:19), You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe–and tremble!

“I Do Not Believe in Anything I Cannot See!”

While working with an electrician, one said that he did not believe in the existence of anything he could not see. At that moment, the other replied, ‘Well then, grab a hold of that live electrical wire.’ When he refused, and was asked why he would not take hold of the wire, it was because he believed there was electricity in the wire. He could not see the electricity yet he believed in it. He then replied, ‘I see your point.’

Although we cannot see God, we know that He exists!

The Atheist Must Give an Answer to History

• There are many recorded historical facts that prove:
• There is a God
• The Bible is a supernatural book
• The Lord Jesus Christ is indeed alive and who He claimed to be

A good approach is to challenge the atheist at first with only two solid historical facts that he cannot deny, and must give an answer to:

• It is a recorded historical fact that around 1000 B.C., Pharaoh freed about three million Hebrew slaves. The Hebrew slaves were the “backbone” of the Egyptian economy. What ever possessed Pharaoh to make such an awesome decision that literally put Egypt in total confusion, economic strain, and great loss of being the most powerful nation on earth? The Jewish nation celebrates the Passover to this day in memory of that great Exodus! The atheist cannot hide from or ignore this historical fact that the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob brought the most powerful nation at that time to its knees and forced all of Egypt to let His people go!
• It is a recorded historical fact that about 2,000 years ago, Jesus of Nazareth was crucified and began Biblical Christianity. It is also a recorded historical fact that you will find in any local library that this Jesus had many jealous enemies who hated Him and ultimately persuaded the Roman government official, Pontius Pilate to have Jesus crucified and put an end to His following. Everything that Jesus claimed concerning Himself and the promises of the future all rested upon one statement that He made. He declared that He would rise from the dead.

The quickest and easiest way that His enemies and the Roman government could have proved Him to be a liar and end Christianity before it even got started was simply to display His dead body publicly. That’s all they had to do. Pilate could have ordered his Roman soldiers to take Jesus’ body out of the tomb where He was buried and hang it right at the gate of the city Jerusalem where all could see. But they could not. Why? Because He rose from the dead!!

The historical fact that the atheist must answer to is, “Where is Jesus’ body?” He must give an answer to that because the whole Christian faith is built upon that one historical fact!

Show Them the Powerful Proof that the Bible is No Ordinary Book and that it Indeed is the Very Word of God
